The Return Of Worker Evaluations

from the rank-and-yank dept

During the last few years the idea of employment evaluations got watered down. No one wanted to insult anyone for fear that they'd leave and go to another job. The idea of having someone - anyone - in a job was more important than having good workers. Not surprisingly, that idea is changing rapidly, and with it, employee evaluations are returning with a vengeance. Some companies are using the "rank and yank" system of ranking all of their employees and tossing some percentage near the bottom. This is not making employees particularly comfortable. I think this is a case of extremes again. Companies that were extremely lax before, are being extremely tough now - neither of which is particularly helpful long term.
