The Proper Way To Sell Your Dot Com

from the guaranteed-money dept

If you happened to sell your dot com just as everything was getting really bad, and you wanted to make sure you did okay, you should have probably worked out a deal like Scott Kurnit did when he sold About.com to Primedia. Apparently, if he sells his shares for less than $26.8 million (total) - which is $15.25 a share - Primedia has to make up the difference. Primedia is now hedging that bet with a financial institution in the belief that their stock can only go up from here. Many companies (and people) have lost lots of money on bets that a certain stock (especially their own) can only go up.
