Brain Doesn't Multitask Very Well

from the like-that's-a-surprise dept

Here's a study telling you what any elementary school kid will tell you: it's difficult to rub your stomach and pat your head at the same time. It's doable - but you don't do either one particularly well. Well, that's not exactly what the study said - but they did say that human brains don't multitask very well. The article suggests this could be important in thinking about legislation banning cell phones in cars.

I find it difficult to do the opposite: pat my stomach and rub my head. I must be right-brained and you're left-brained, or the other way around.

    Proven for years

We've seen this proven for years. It's called "American Government". At no time in the history of the U.S. has an elected official been able to "do his/her elected job" and "work on being re-elected". Apparently even people with little to no brain cells can not concentrate on more then one task (what a surprise).
