Tivo And The Hackers
from the a-relationship-ending? dept
A good article in Salon about Tivo's relationship with hackers. While it's been very positive all along, that might be coming to an end. Tivo has been pretty supportive of hackers, realizing that it's actually helping to sell more of their boxes. However, now that a group has released some technology to share video streams from Tivos, that happy-happy relationship might be ending. There's nothing officially happening yet, but if the lawyers start showing up (and the entertainment industry doesn't have much of a reputation for being reasonable and holding back the lawyers), things might turn nasty. That's why some Tivo hackers are actually pissed off at the group for releasing their code. It's like taunting Tivo to turn on them.
