Final Death Of Divx

from the remember-divx? dept

Remember Divx (not the movie compression format)? That is the DVD-competitor that failed spectacularly after almost no one (except occasional Techdirt contributor Todd) could stand it. Well, anyone who has a Divx player and Divx discs will discover that they’ll stop working after June 30 – two years after the format was discontinued. If I had bought a Divx system and Divx movies, I would be pissed right now. To make matters worse, due to some “exclusivity” arrangements the studios set up to try to promote Divx over DVD, many movies available on Divx simply aren’t available on DVD.
