The Story Of Two, Then One, Then No Online Wine Merchants

from the drink-up dept

The news of wine.com's demise has been reported widely, and is not all that interesting by itself. Here's a good article, though that gets a little deeper into the background of what happened between them and wineshopper.com. The companies officially merged but had extremely different cultures. They never got along, and never actually merged the sites, and basically fought with one another the whole time. The article also puts a lot of the blame on the VCs who left the original entrepreneurs hung out to dry. Though, the entrepreneurs don't seem to be blaming the VCs. This is a good thing. For whatever problems I have with the way some venture capitalists act, blaming an entire collapse on them isn't fair either. The entrepreneurs took a risk in starting a company, and ultimately, it's the result of the moves they made that caused it to fail.
