Rumors are spreading that the reason for Sprint and Earthlink's recent semi-breakup was to allow Earthlink to merge with Microsoft. The article presents lots of reasons why it makes sense for both customers (mainly to compete against AOL-Time Warner). I could also see someone like Yahoo looking to purchase Earthlink.
