Colleges Making Students Pay For Bandwidth

from the no-more-Napster-for-you! dept

Apparently more and more college campuses are thinking about charging students for bandwidth. There argument is that they don't subsidize cable bills and telephone bills, and this is really the same thing. Plus, the expenses associated with providing dialup and other accounts to people is just too high. When I was in college I remember that we had two different dialup plans. One was free - but you were limited to a much lower modem speed. The other cost about $12/month and would let you cruise at the ultra high speed of 14.4 kbps.
