Is Hotmail Handling Your Medical Records?

from the dumb-dumb-dumb dept

Duffman writes "Apparently, doctors in Britain are using Hotmail to mail medical records. If I'm reading it right, they have their own firewall system that is supposed to keep confidential info away from the Internet, but there are problems because proper security hasn't even been implemented across the system. There are even fights as to setting up the basic email system, let alone the security for it, so doctors have resorted to sending patient files using Hotmail just to get them from point A to point B because that's the only option. My only consolation is that Hotmail is run on FreeBSD and not Windows."
