Another Accidentally Successful Dot Com

from the I-see-a-trend... dept

While everyone and their big money backers were trying and failing to make teen-focused web content, a real-life teenager was building a hugely successful teen site. It's funny how those things work. 15-year-old Ashley Powers started Goosehead.com for fun after she moved to a new school. It's quickly turning into a teen entertainment empire involving Richard Dreyfuss, NBC, MGM, Disney, and (of course) a whole bunch of teenagers.

Goosehead was not a coincidence of some teen girl building a successful community. Her father is a powerful media industry figure and the site was designed as a marketing tool to promote his daughter and help launch her acting/entertainment career. If you've ever been to the site the photos of the girl in question are frequently sexually suggestive. The exploitation of this girl by her parents is highly objectionable.

Do you know what ended up happening to Ashley? I have heard a lot of rumors in regards to her Father. Is it true her Father was abusing her? Is that why the site closed down?

Yes. That is true. There were unappropraite things done, and it caused her parents to divorce. Ashley has been through alot, and doesn't like talking about it much.
