Detective Database

from the it's-the-batcomputer dept

Police are now using a sophisticated computing system which is helping them catch criminals. Apparently, the computer constantly analyzes a ton of data to see if it can suggest any leads on important cases. The article doesn’t say much, though, about the probability of false positives. While it’s a good thing if the computer really does help to solve crimes, I’d be afraid of police departments becoming too reliant on the computer, and assuming that whatever it spits out must be true.
