Corporations To Decrease IT Spending
from the suddenly-its-discretionary-again dept
A number of predictions are coming out saying that companies are going to cut back significantly on IT spending. There's one quote about how things will roll along just fine without any new IT spending. This misses the point. IT spending is supposed to be done to make companies act more efficiently. If that's not why it's being done, then perhaps it is reasonable to cut back. However, if the IT spending really does increase productivity or decrease costs, than there's a real value to be had from continuing to spend on IT. I think it's unfortunate that in times of "downturn" suddenly people stop looking at the "benefits" side of the equation and look only at "costs".
