Pets.com Shutting Down
from the surprising dept
This one is a bit of a surprise. Pets.com which was the biggest of the online shopping stores is shutting down. They claim they may sell off the rights to the damn sock puppet, though (maybe we could use it as a mascot of dot com stupidity here on Techdirt). Online pet stores have been the joke of dot com excesses for the past year or so, but that doesn't mean that they should all suddenly go out of business. I am surprised that they are just giving up completely. I do think that they may have become a little complacent once Amazon invested in them, but Amazon's investment track record seems to be getting worse every day.
