Rio's Pyrrhic Victory

A very good article over at Salon about last year's Rio lawsuit victory. The author makes the case that everyone in the online music business probably put too much weight on that one victory. Everyone started to assume that the old laws didn't apply, and anything was possible. At the same time, the RIAA learned quite a lesson from the Rio case as well: pick battles you can win. They also prepared a lot more and found better targets to attack. Of course, I think it's a bit short sighted to say that the RIAA has won, but perhaps the pendulum has swung back a little.
