Is There a Future for E-Commerce?

from the hell-yes dept

An interesting discussion over at the E-Commerce Times as to whether or not there is a future for e-commerce (they'd better hope so). The point they make is that most people have a very short term view of success. Everyone knows that e-commerce makes sense, long term, but that it might take some time to get there. However, analysts want profitability now and that's causing problems. It's been true for quite a while that many American businesses take a very short term view (generally, quarterly) on business. Since so much emphasis is placed on quarterly results it's very difficult to plan for the long-term. This was the major complaint against American businesses in the late 80s and early 90s. It also seems like something that everyone forgot as dot com investing became the latest trend.
