Problems with Free DSL

I was always weary of all the free DSL offers. Either they seemed way too good to be true, or they were chock full of fine print that made it clear this was free for marketing purposes only - while in reality you were going to pay through the nose. Now, not surprisingly, we find out that free DSL is having problems. Oh well. Could have seen that one coming a mile away...
