International Red Tape

from the nothing-to-do-with-spies dept

We've all heard about stolen data from national laboratories, supposedly to do with spies. Well it seems that in an effort to stamp out spies congress may have also burdened scientists with an enormous amount of red tape and delays. I agree with improved efforts to prevent national secrets being stolen but it seems silly to slow progress throughout national labs solely for these measures.

I used to work at McDonnell Douglas on some secret projects, and it was a major pain in the butt. Nothing on your desk... stop work when the red light was on (non-cleared person in the room).
