Geron's Cloning Patent

from the could-be-interesting-in-a-few-years dept

So now that Geron has the patent for cloning, what's the big deal? Well basically, at the moment it's not much of a big deal but after a little more research this patent will be worth an enormous amount. If Geron combines its stem cell technology with the ability to clone cells it would allow them to grow tissues on demand. In the future if you've got liver disease it might be no problem; they might be able to grow you a new one that won't react with your immune system. This technology will have tremendous possibilities in all aspects of health care, so if Geron survives to profitability they should be on the highly lucrative forefront of tissue engineering.
