Work for Your Ads
from the huh? dept
Here's an article about a number of companies that are creating some sort of barcoding or watermarking technology that can be added to paper magazines, so readers can scan them and get more info online. There are a ton of problems that I can see with this. First off, people need to have these special scanners. What's the incentive to get one? Second, it changes the whole reading pattern. I, personally, usually don't read the few magazines I do read near a computer. Third, do that many people really want more info about the ads they see? In the very rare instance I see an ad that interests me I'll just go to that web page some time when it's convenient. Finally, working on technology for paper based magazines? That's so last millennium...
