FBI Begging For Help From Bay Area Companies

from the we'll-trade-you! dept

The FBI is trying to convince Bay Area tech companies that they really really ought to come forward with information about hack attacks on their machines. Since many companies are afraid to come forward with info for fear that it will publicly hurt the company, the FBI is setting up a "secure" system where companies can anonymously report info about attacks while getting access to information about other attacks to better secure themselves. They say that by cooperating with each other, everyone will be better positioned to prevent attacks. While that's probably true, it's certainly difficult to do when you're trying to keep everyone secret as well.

FBI deals with theft and at times identity theft. Hacking and hack attacks are covered by the Secret Service by law. I guess the FBI just gets all the good press cause they aint called "secret"
