from the if-you-build-it-and-charge-lots-of-money-they-won't-come dept

The NY Times has an article about how so many of the attempts by universities to offer online courses have failed. Many universities simply assumed that people would come running to pay them money if they threw their courses online. It turned out that it was much more difficult and expensive to offer courses online - and the market just wasn't there. Many have shut down or are completely rethinking their strategies.
